History
The Old Orchard Beach Public Library is located in the Edith Belle Libby Memorial Building at the edge of the Memorial Park on Staples Street- only one block from Old Orchard Street! The present library building, which opened in 1957 was made possible, in part, due to a gift in the will of Frank Libby, a former town selectman. It was his wish that it be named in memory of his wife Edith Belle Libby.

Collection
The library circulates audio books, videos, magazines, puzzles, and some phonograph records and tapes, as well as more than 23,000 books for adults and children. The library also houses a paperback exchange collection, which is available to all. In addition, 58 current magazines and newspapers are displayed in the pleasant garden area reading room.

Technology
The Old Orchard Beach Public Library has [at this time] two computers for the public. One, which is equipped for word processing applications, drawing and a couple of games, is available for general use; the other is connected to the internet. To use this unit you must have a valid library card and sign an "AUP" [acceptable use policy form]. There is no charge for either work station, but there is a small fee to print more than two pages of material [.15 per page].

Library Cards
Cards are free to any child attending school in Old Orchard, permanent residents, and property owners. Visitors are always welcome and a non-resident card, which is good for a full year, is still only $10.00! Resident cards are mailed out, but non-resident fee cards may be used immediately. In either case, you must have valid I.D. and fill out a registration form to obtain a card.
